  1. I taught conic sections in Algebra II today in a very hands-on way, having the students make their own cones out of construction paper and cut them up with scissors. I took a risk teaching a new lesson topic in an unfamiliar way, and I did a good job thinking on my feet when the cuts did not work out quite like I had imagined at first.
  2. I started this new blog to help me see the good of what I do and balance against the paralyzing self-criticism I have been feeling. The ultimate goal is to find my way out of my present depression. The idea came to me during the long drive home yesterday, after a weekend road trip with my good friend Chris, who is a professional counselor and also one of the wisest, most compassionate, and most intelligent individuals I know. She told me to think of a leader, such as a teacher or a coach, who has given me positive feedback. I thought of Mr. B, whom I look up to as a mentor of sorts at my school. Then she told me to learn to talk to myself like Mr. B would talk to me. That lead me to make this blog. The rules are simple: I must post every day. I mention three positive things I have done well over the past 24 hours. Finally, to qualify for this blog, a thing must be done in deed or recorded in some tangible form; having a good idea or good intentions is not enough.
  3. I completed my MTC required blog posts on time. I am an honest and thoughtful blogger, and others have told me they enjoy reading my blog.
